How Have the Best WWE Superstars of the 90’s Continued Their Success?

The 90’s were a great time for professional wrestling in the USA. For a while there, we had a number of different styles overlapping and creating a fantastic watching experience. The early 90’s were still holding on to the so-called Golden Era of wrestling that began in the 80’s. Somewhere in the middle came the New Generation, eager to get rid of the old school and whatever they represented. Finally, near the end of the 90’s appeared what some might say was the most exciting period in the entire pro wrestling history – The Attitude Era. This list will show you some of the greatest wwe stars that peaked in the 90’s and find out where they are now.

Shawn Michaels

We’ll start with one of the defining characters of the 90’s pro wrestling, the so-called “Heartbreak Kid” – Shawn Michaels. His nickname came to being when his famous tag team, “The Rockers,”  which consisted of Shawn and Marty Jannetty, split up violently onstage. Lamenting the loss, Shawn became The Heartbreak Kid, which propelled his solo career. The ladder match with Razor Ramon during Wrestlemania X is the one that put Michaels on the map. In 2010, Michaels retired from the WWE with four world championship titles on his belt. He continues to be a prominent figure in the wrestling world, but also does other projects like Shawn Michaels’ MacMillan River Adventures, a successful hunting show airing on CarbonTV.

Yokozuna

You might have not liked him, but Yokozuna (real name Rodney Agatupu Anoa’i) was one of the truly memorable characters in 90’s wrestling. His name signified the greatest title in sumo-wrestling, although Rodney himself never actually participated in it. Known for his imposing figure and intimidating presence, Yokozuna’s character would often be accompanied by Mr. Fuji, his ruthless manager who would often throw salt into his opponent’s eyes. Yokozuna was a two-time champion both of single and tag team WWF events. However, Yokozuna died in 2000, because of the fluid in his lungs. A truly great wrestler, he will be remembered as one of the top stars of the 90’s.

The Rock

Any list that fails to mention The Rock is truly a disgrace to professional wrestling. For many years, Dwayne Johnson has been the face of professional wrestling. A great combination of muscles and manners, The Rock was destined to become one of the greatest. Despite having a promising football career, Dwayne chose wrestling as his calling. His father, also a famous wrestler, advised him not to go into this profession, but his mind was already set. And he worked hard. In short time he turned from a hated heel to the most beloved face in wrestling history. Along with this, he managed to create a staggering film career and host many shows. For this reason, The Rock is one of the most successful WWE stars today. Truly, a legend.

Kevin Nash

The Royal Rumble in 1994 is what made us look out for Kevin Nash, nicknamed Diesel. In it, he managed to eliminate seven wrestlers. He became known as the man who ended Goldberg’s streak and who defeated Bob Backlund in one of the quickest taps in wrestling history. During his career, he won 21 championships and humiliated many longtime champions. Along with Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall, he was the founding member of New World Order. In 2015, Diesel was inducted into the WWE Hall of fame by non other than his long-time friend Shawn Michaels. Kevin continues to appear in WWE occasionally, exciting the fans and giving some old-school charm to the modern matches.
