When he shifted from Virginia to Torrance, California, it was with good reason. WWE Hall Of Famer Rikishi and former superstar Gangrel had opened a wrestling school known as Knokx Pro Wrestling Academy. In fact, Rusev was only the second student from the Knokx Pro Wrestling School to be signed by WWE (with Ricardo Rodriguez being the first).
Rikishi had praised Rusev for the hard work he put in and for being deserving of his spot after being signed by WWE. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t Rikishi, but his younger brother, who Rusev would somewhat model himself after.
