#3.) Bruno Sammartino wasn’t fully happy about the passing of the torch
Sammartino was not against the idea of dropping the title nor was he against Morales being the one he passed the torch to. However, after his incredible 2803-day title reign, he felt that having Ivan Koloff lose the title in just 21 days wasn’t a good payoff. It’s definitely an understandable point of view because he did give his blood, sweat, and tears while he was the top star of the business.
It’s possible that a longer title reign for atleast 100+ days would have been justifiable, but the time period was different, and there many instances where fans got aggressive. Either way, Sammartino endorsed Morales at MSG when he won the title.
