When AJ Styles came to WWE in 2016, he didn’t expect to be anything more than a midcarder. The fans thought the same and so did Vince McMahon. However, Styles’ performances and reactions at live events and TV tapings made McMahon quickly realize that what he had in his hands was no ordinary superstar.
With Styles taking McMahon’s advice to heart, he main evented PPVs within months of his debut and competed at a top level from the get-go. He ended up proving McMahon wrong in no time, becoming WWE Champion in less than 8 months from his debut. He became a staple of the main event scene and continues to be a regular main eventer and World title-level competitor for WWE.
