The wrestling world is still reeling after the loss of “Mean” Gene Okerlund. Sean Mooney was one of Gene’s announcer contemporaries. Sean Mooney recently posted a video to YouTube and shared great memories of Okerlund, as a lot of his contemporaries have been.
One funny story is from when Sean was interviewing Donald Trump at WrestleMania in Atlantic City and it wasn’t very good by Sean’s own admission. Sean said that afterward, Gene Okerlund came up to him and said, “that interview was the s–ts. I don’t know if Donald is going to let you back in your room.” Sean credited that experience with breaking the tension for him after such a bad interview.
Sean Mooney echoed the words that Corey Graves tweeted, “don’t be sad that we lost Gene Okerlund. Smile because we had him.”
