Severity Of Tyson Kidd’s Spinal Injury Revealed: ‘TJ Was At High Risk For Quadriplegia & Death’

While in town for this Sunday’s Royal Rumble, Total Divas stars Natalya and TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd) visited Barrow Neurological in Phoenix, Arizona. The couple caught up with neurosurgeon, Dr. Juan Uribe, who performed the surgery for the career ending spinal injury Wilson suffered in June of 2015.

Barrow Neurological noted the following regarding the severity of Wilson’s injury, “Pro wrestler TJ Wilson stopped by today w/ Natalya to visit his neurosurgeon, Dr. Juan Uribe. TJ fractured his cervical spine in the ring & was at high risk for quadriplegia & death. Dr. Uribe performed a spinal fusion & TJ is doing great! The couple is in town with WWE.”

Wilson suffered the injury during a June 1st dark match against WWE Superstar Samoa Joe. It was the first time the two wrestled and Kidd’s in-ring career ended after taking a Samoa Joe muscle buster. Kidd has been vocal about not blaming Samoa Joe for the injury and recently told SLAM Magazine,

Joe did come to the hospital that night. We spoke that night. We would text throughout the time I was hurt, but I only saw him face to face when I got hurt and when I did see him that night, things were still up in the air with the severity of my injury. He was definitely remorseful and I think we all are when we hurt somebody and when somebody gets hurt under our watch. Stuff happens. We perform at such a high level so many days a week that things are going to happen. We just have to do the best we can to take care of each other and to let a person know that we’re there for them when they do get hurt. My first day back as a producer after two years, once I was out of meetings, he was the first guy who I Terminator-style sought out and found. And we had a very good talk and we’re friends. We get along great.

After Vince McMahon made the initial suggestion, Kidd now works as a WWE producer.

Wilson’s personal friend Titus O’ Neil also tweeted the following regarding Wilson’s life saving surgery:
