Jon Moxley on Wrestling Without The WWE ‘Chatter,’ Competing In The G1 Tournament

In an interview with ESPN, Jon Moxley goes into detail about how it felt wrestling his first match out of WWE in nine years. According to the former Dean Ambrose, he felt like Vince and his producers were always with him in a WWE ring. In New Japan, things were different. “All of a sudden when I got in the ring, five minutes into the match I was like, there’s no chatter. There was no producer-ref-Vince chatter. It was like silence. And I didn’t expect that.” Moxley stated that he felt like his old self as soon as he started beating up his opponent, Juice Robinson.

After making his AEW debut at the recent Fyter Fest event, Moxley will be returning to Japan for a grueling one-month tournament. He’s part of the legendary G1 event, and he couldn’t be happier about it.

I heard a lot of stuff about how hard this tournament is, how grueling this tournament is. When one of the top companies in the world with such great history invites you to their flagship event — yeah, it’ll be hard, but you only get one life. What am I gonna say? No? Why would I be saying no?

Moxley also implies that this may be his one opportunity to participate in the tournament, signaling that his AEW bookings might become an overwhelming priority once their TV show starts up this fall. Till then, Moxley is just enjoying life outside of Vince’s house. “The thing with me is, most likely I’ll have the foot on the gas pedal pretty hard the entire time. Whether that’s smart or not, that’s just the way I’m wired. I expect it to be fun.”
