Jake Hager Beats Wardlow In Cage Fight, The Inner Circle Brawls With The Pinnacle

This week on AEW Dynamite, Wardlow and Jake Hager made history when they competed in the first Cage Fight in the promotion’s history.

Representing their respective factions, Hager (The Inner Circle) faced Warlow (The Pinnacle) clashed in a Cage Fight that was contested under MMA rules. The two powerhouses felt each other out early on. Hager used his actual MMA experience to gain the advantage at various, but Wardlow’s power made up for his lack of previous bouts under these rules. He rocked Hager with a nasty right hand and suplexed him to take control.

Hager fired back with punches of his own, and the two big men traded blows. Wardlow hit a Superman punch off the cage, and he drilled Hager with a series of punches.

After the first round, Hager was not 100%. Wardlow continued to dominate by keeping Hager grounded. But the Inner Circle’s enforcer rallied with some punches of his own. He locked in a triangle choke, but Wardlow escaped it by punching his way out of it.

Hager then trapped Wardlow in an ankle lock. Wardlow escaped again, but Hager slammed him to the mat. He then locked in a submission hold and choked Wardlow out, as the referee ended the match via stoppage.

Shawn Spears attacked Hager after the match. Chris Jericho made the save, and the brawl turned into a fight between the two stables when MJF entered the cage. He attacked Jericho’s injured elbow and wrenched it in an armbar. Dean Malenko got in MJF’s face, and The Pinnacle’s leader dropped the veteran. But Sammy Guevara ran to the ring and chased The Inner Circle away.

Hager is 3-0 in MMA fights (with one no contests,) so he’s still technically undefeated inside the cage.
