Robbie Eagles made history at NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam.
With his win over El Desperado, Eagles won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. In the process, he became the first Australian IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion in history.

Eagles’ celebration of his victory was paired with a brief tease of the future. Former champion Hiromu Takahashi was at ringside for the match after he had stated his intention to challenge the winner for the title earlier in the show. Takahashi was forced to vacate the championship due to an injury, and Desperado won the gold at the Castle Attack event on February 28. He defeated El Phantasmo and BUSHI in a triple threat bout for the title.
