Chicago Announces Indoor Mask Mandate Will Begin The Same Day As AEW Rampage: The First Dance

Chicago has announced that an indoor mask mandate for everyone over the age of two will go into effect on August 20, the same day as AEW Rampage: The First Dance. The mask mandate applies to everyone, regardless of vaccination status.

On Friday, AEW will hold “The First Dance,” a highly anticipated episode of AEW Rampage, from the United Center in Chicago. The arena’s mask policy is as follows:

“Fully vaccinated guests are not required to wear a mask while at the United Center. Masks are recommended for all unvaccinated guests and will be provided for guests upon request.”

While the policy is subject to change before the event, it’s fair to expect that it will still be in affect by the time the event kicks off. Amidst surging COVID-19 numbers, the city had been averaging 419 COVID-19 daily cases as of August 16, a 21% increase compared to the previous week, per Chicago’s city data.

At this time, Ilinois Governor Governor J.B. Pritzker does not plan to utilize a statewide mask mandate, per the Chicago Tribune.

The situation is important to monitor, even after the completion of “The First Dance.” On September 5, AEW will return to the ara with its All Out pay-per-view from the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
