Matthew Rehwoldt Reflects On First Televised Singles Match In Three Years: ‘I’m Proud Of Last Night’

Reflection is an important factor in an artist’s life, and that’s exactly the case for Matthew Rehwoldt.

IMPACT Wrestling star Matthew Rehwoldt took part in his first televised singles wrestling match in over three years when he faced Trey Miguel during last night’s edition of IMPACT. Matthew Rehwoldt lost the match, but ended up being grateful just for the opportunity and said as much this afternoon when taking to Twitter.

“It’s been over three years since I’ve had a singles match featured on a television show… I want to thank Trey Miguel for reminding me that this artiste still has a few more pieces to display. I’m proud of last night,” Rehwoldt wrote.

Rehwoldt has been featured in several singles matches at live events over the past few years and has been featured on IMPACT TV with Deonna Purrazzo, but his last televised singles match was a loss to Rusev (Miro) on the October 23, 2018 episode of SmackDown.

Matthew Rehwoldt also spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about joining IMPACT Wrestling and linking up with Deonna Purrazzo upon his arrival. Rehwoldt talked about what led him to IMPACT now and how he’s clicked with Purrazzo from the start.

“So, sometimes it takes a little bit of time, it takes the stars lining up so to speak, and with this year’s Slammiversary and then shortly thereafter, the Homecoming Tournament that was being planned, they were looking for a partner for Deonna Purrazzo and Deonna, as we all know, is a very high-formed athlete, she walks on air in the wrestling world, and rightfully so. So, I’d like to think the Drama King is [on that level] too,” Matthew Rehwoldt explained. “So the timing and the marriage of styles worked out and it seemed like a perfect fit. It’s one of those things that seemed perfect on paper and when I showed up and we started working together,” he noted, “it clicked from moment one and off to the races we went.”
