During a taping of AEW Dark: Elevation on December 28, Kenny Marquez, also known as Jake Atlas, made his surprising return to the ring.
In a video shot by a fan at the taping, AEW President/General Manager Tony Khan joined Marquez on the stage after the match and shook his hand. Khan then raised Marquez’ arm, and some fans have wondered whether Khan’s celebration with Marquez could hint at the latter joining the company. It’s currently unclear whether he’s officially signed with AEW following this match.

After WWE released Marquez during a round of cuts in August, he competed at ROH Death Before Dishonor before he announced that he would be stepping away from wrestling in order to focus on his mental health. At the time, Marquez claimed that he would be looking to “explore completely different industries” in order to find his passion. For the moment, at least, it seems like he’s ready to step back into the ring.
