The wrestling world got quite the shock yesterday when it was reported that Cesaro had departed WWE and is now a free agent.
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer expanded upon this news stating that while Cesaro wasn’t looking to leave, he wasn’t happy with the offer that WWE gave to him in comparison to what other names got as of late to re-sign with the company and chose to decline the offer. Meltzer says he hasn’t heard about any offers from All Elite Wrestling yet. But he does note that AEW’s Bryan Danielson is a big supporter of The Swiss Cyborg and had him go over clean on WWE programming on several occasions when Danielson was part of the booking team on SmackDown.
In addition to this news, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Cesaro mentioned to his friends in WWE as early as October that he wasn’t sure if he’d be hanging around once his current contract expired this month.
In regards to why Cesaro chose to leave, some WWE sources told Sapp that there was “reasonable disappointment” regarding how he has been used in WWE over the years. Sources also spoke highly to SRS when it comes to Cesaro’s professionalism as he finished up with the company.
There’s also a possibility that WWE could sign Cesaro to a new deal down the line because it doesn’t appear that The Swiss Superman burned any bridges on his way out of the company.
