Alex Hammerstone: MLW SuperFight Is My Chance To Show Why I’m The Best

Alex Hammerstone is quickly becoming the face of Major League Wrestling, and he’ll aim to cement his place at MLW Supercard on February 26.

On Saturday, Hammerstone will defend his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against renowned veteran Davey Richards when the company makes its debut in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Hammerstone previewed the bout and noted that he appreciates the way that, rather than a complex storyline, this contest is grounded in the way he and Richards both believe they’re the best. In order to settle the matter, the champion and the challenger will clash in the ring, and “Hammer” views this bout as an opportunity to prove that he’s alone at the top in MLW.

“What excites me most about this match is that there’s no big, overarching storyline,” said Hammerstone, who is 31-year-old Alex Rohde. “There’s nothing complicated. This isn’t a blood feud. There are no extra trimmings, like a ladder match or a cage match, to spice things up.

“We are the two guys that think of themselves as the best in the company, and we want to have the best wrestling match possible. This is my match to show why I’m the best in MLW.”

In a more general sense, the reigning MLW World Heavyweight Champion made it clear that he appreciates the duties that come with having the promotion’s top prize. He vowed to compete at “the highest level” with the title around his waist.

“I want to capture people’s imagination,” said Hammerstone. “I’m going to do this at the highest level. There is extra criticism and extra critiques, but I relish the responsibility of being MLW champion.”

MLW SuperFight won’t air live, but fans can look forward to seeing Hammerstone’s match, along with the rest of the action, over the next few weeks on MLW Fusion.
