Woods won the title by dethroning Jonathan Gresham at ROH Death Before Dishonor in September. He has remained active during ROH’s hiatus; Woods has been made multiple appearances on AEW Dark. Yuta frequently appears on AEW programming, and he joins AEW stars FTR, Shane Strickland, and Jay Lethal on the Supercard lineup. He previously competed for ROH during the Pure Championship tournament in 2020, and he also competed at Final Battle 2020.
