Tony Khan recently bought Ring of Honor, and the new owner of the promotion is gearing up for its first event under his guidance, ROH Supercard of Honor on April 1.
Khan has announced several buzzworthy bouts for the show and previously discussed his appreciation of the ROH legacy heading into the new era.
During an appearance on STRONG STYLE on John Rocha’s YouTube channel, Khan was asked to describe what fans can expect from this version of the company. The AEW President explained that he’s aimed to show ROH some love in recent weeks on AEW Dynamite by booking matches that call back to some of the latter company’s great bouts. He then dove into his own fandom of ROH and stated that his ownership will be beneficial for the promotion.
“Well first of all, I’ve tried to kind of pen a couple of love letters to the Ring of Honor fans just in the last few weeks with great matches on Dynamite that were throwbacks to some of the best Ring of Honor matches, like Bryan Danielson versus Christopher Daniels, looking back to The Era of Honor begins, of course,” said Khan. “And then having Jay Lethal versus Adam Cole on Dynamite this past week, I think that was another awesome match and it goes back to a great rivalry, and of course, that has something to do with how Jay Lethal ended up with that shaved head.
“So I really have so much respect for Ring of Honor, I’m a fan of Ring of Honor and now it’s a great privilege to be the owner of Ring of Honor. I really am very grateful for those fans. I am one of the Ring of Honor fans, and I think that’s why it’s gonna be very good for the future of the company.
Khan went on to tease that he has some “tricks” up his sleeve for the pay-per-view. He then made it clear that fans shouldn’t leave the show early, despite the fact that there are several other events on the same night.
“Since it’s a pay-per-view, I tend to have some tricks up my sleeve,” said Khan. “I have my pencil in hand and it shall be utilized. And hopefully a lot of exciting things about that show… I’ve heard some talk because there are so many events that night, I’ve heard a few people talking like they might leave early to go to another show. Don’t do that. It would be a big mistake to leave before the show is over.”
The ROH owner then explained that this chapter of the promotion;’s history is a shift to a new era that will honor the promotion’s past and build an “unlimited future.”
“It’s a transition show in many ways,” said Khan. “The end of a 20-year era, it’s been an amazing era but it’s not the end of anything. It’s a transition to a new era and I’m gonna pay respect and pay homage to 20 great years of Ring of Honor, but we also have an unlimited future to look forward to together with a new Ring of Honor that still has a lot of respect and will remember and honor the traditions of ROH.”
