Cody Rhodes Plans To Steer Clear Of Any More Management Roles In Wrestling

Now that he’s back in WWE, Cody Rhodes is focused on being a wrestler, not an executive.

Rhodes, a former Executive Vice President of All Elite Wrestling, returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 Night One, as he signed a multi-year contract to return to the promotion he started his career with.

The next day, he answered questions during a media scrum. When asked whether he’d want to work on the executive side in WWE’s developmental system, as his father Dusty did, Rhodes noted that he plans to stay away from that side of the business. He stated, “Never say never”, but he intends to “steer clear” of the management aspect of wrestling.

“Never say never,” said Rhodes. “Just in general, it’s easier because in six years, if we are having this conversation again, I could be completely going back on what I said. I don’t think I want a management job in wrestling ever again. I don’t think I was mature enough for it. And I tried.”

Rhodes also explained that following in Dusty’s footsteps by working with NXT would be too painful. He went on to describe how he believes that working in front of a crowd is truly the best way to learn.

“If I never walk into the Performance Center, I’d be happy because it’s a little too hard for me,” said Rhodes. “That’s where his office was. His boots were there. And also when I graduated OVW, my dad told me, ‘Never go back. You’re done, never go back.’ Because you can learn wrestling moves all day in wrestling school, flips, dives, you can learn all these moves that are needed today, the high-tech stuff, as Arn Anderson likes to call it. But the only way you really get the flow and the connection is to work in front of a crowd. And that, you don’t have that ability. You can get your students to be a crowd, but it’s not really the same. So I’m good.”

“The American Nightmare” emphasized how he’s “all in” with WWE, so he’ll go wherever they tell him to go, but he aims to stay away from management because he’s a wrestler.

“As the press release stated and such, it’s a very large agreement, and I’m fully all in and committed to it. So where I go, they’ll send me where I go. We’ll see where I go, but I will try and steer clear of any management roles, anything like – ever. I’m a wrestler, and that’s probably what’s best for me.”

Rhodes commented on his “complex” contract. His comments are available here.
