AEW World Championship Bout Announced For AEW Double Or Nothing

CM Punk will challenge Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship at AEW Double or Nothing on May 29.

The broadcast team confirmed the news on the April 27 episode of AEW Dynamite.

The champion, Hangman Page, was unable to attend the show due to COVID-19. But after the opening match, upon the announcement about the title bout, Punk came to the ring to comment on the news. He stated that AEW’s roster is more talented than any he has ever seen. Several months into his return to wrestling, he recalled how he initially questioned whether he could still go. “The Second City Saint” stated that he now knows he can still hang with the best. As for the championship match, he said that he can’t promise a win, but he vowed that his clash with Page will be a fight.

Punk also thanked the fans for their support and said he wouldn’t have reached this point without them.

Page won the title at AEW Full Gear in November by dethroning Kenny Omega. He recently defended the gold against Adam Cole in a Texas Death Match.

Punk made his AEW debut last August; in doing so, he returned to wrestling for the first time since he left WWE in 2014. He has been featured as a prominent player throughout his time in AEW. He scored a big win over MJF in a Dog Collar Match at AEW Revolution. On the April 20 episode of AEW Dynamite, he defeated Dustin Rhodes. After the bout, Page stared him down.
