IMPACT Wrestling’s Gisele Shaw Comes Out As Transgender

Gisele Shaw has shared the news that she is transgender.

On June 24, the IMPACT Wrestling star appeared on Breakfast Television in Canada, and in recognition of Pride Month, she stated that she is being true to herself by revealing the news to the world.

“Today I am fully living my life to the fullest, truly authentic, freely and I am transgender, and I’m very proud,” said Shaw. “It’s super scary but I feel like the more that I speak about it, it’s normalized and I just feel more free and just accepting my of my own self and loving my own self. And I think that’s really important.”

Shaw went on to say that Pride Month is all abut being authentic and loving yourself.

“It means so much to me,” said Shaw. “I feel like during Toronto Pride, especially, it’s about being proud, it’s about being authentic and being true to yourself, and it’s just so important to love yourself and to be true to who you are.”

Shaw is often featured on IMPACT Wrestling programming; most recently she participated in the TV tapings on June 20.

Update: IMPACT Wrestling later commented on Shaw’s announcement. In a post on its official website, the company issued the following statement:

IMPACT Wrestling fully supports Gisele, including connecting her with prominent LGBTQ+ resources, including GLAAD and Athlete Ally, and will continue to support her.

In the statement, Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore also expressed his support of Shaw and emphasized that she’s in IMPACT because she’s very talented.

“IMPACT Wrestling has been at the forefront of empowering female performers for over 15 years,” said D’Amore. “Our company believes featuring storylines with women athletes and characters from all different walks of life can not only entertain, but also inspire.

“Inclusiveness and representation are important to IMPACT and parent company Anthem Sports & Entertainment, but I’ll also add Gisele is in IMPACT Wrestling because of her wrestling ability, her charisma and because she fits in with our roster. She is in IMPACT Wrestling because she’s one of the best young talents anywhere in the business.”
