Wardlow wants to bring back the open challenge for the TNT Championship.
After Cody Rhodes won the gold in 2020, he held a weekly open challenge where a number of buzzworthy competitors stepped up. Eddie Kingston and Ricky Starks, among others, answered the call, and due to their impressive performances, the company ultimately brought both men back.
Rhodes’ title defenses built up the prestige of the title, and Wardlow, who won the championship on the July 6 episode of AEW Dynamite, would like to reinstate the open challenge, as he told Telegram & Gazette. He also noted that he has no plans to customize the belt.
“That’s actually my number one priority,” said Wardlow. “I want to bring back the open challenge. I’m not sure if that’s what we’re going to do but I would definitely like to bring that back. Right now I have the original design, which I love, and I don’t have any plans to customize it. If they give me the opportunity, maybe I will, but I do love the original.”
