Renee Paquette Says She Talked With WWE Before Signing With AEW

Renee Paquette discusses her decision to sign with All Elite Wrestling.

Paquette, formerly known as Reneee Young, left WWE after SummerSlam 2020. Though she made a few special appearances for WWE following her exit, Paquette mostly focused on other projects, including her podcast, The Sessions. She then signed with AEW and debuted on the October 12 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Speaking on Excuse Me: The Vickie Guerrero Show, Paquette discussed the process of her signing with AEW and confirmed that she talked with WWE before she made the move. She stated that she realized that she wanted to be a part of AEW, and she made the decision through conversations with her husband, AEW star Jon Moxley.

“I had been talking to WWE. They had gotten leaked out before I debuted with AEW,” Paquette said. “So I had been having some conversations with WWE, just about all of the things they have going on over there and whatever, but the more I was thinking about it and kind of figuring out what that looks like and what the future looks like, I was like no, I want to be in AEW. I wanna be a part of this company that is growing and developing. I really wanna help. I wanna help lend whatever knowledge I have in this space to helping make things good and I wanna do a good job.

“I wanna be on the road with my husband, obviously. That makes life a whole lot easier. So yeah, it was more so that, and it was more the conversations Jon and I were having. That really was one of those first real big moments of like, oh, we have to make a decision as a family. Not that I can’t just go do what I want. If that was what I decided to do, it would have been fine, but you have family conversations about what makes the most sense for everybody.”

Paquette then described how she enjoys AEW’s style, which allows her to collaborate with other wrestlers and figure out segments, as opposed to being handed a script and being told to follow it. She noted that there’s nothing wrong with that approach, but she’s having fun in AEW.

“There was just that sparkle in my eye,” Paquette said. “Even my time now I’ve actually spent in AEW and being able to work there, I love being able to collaborate with people. I love doing the backstage segments, talking to Sonjay [Dutt], just talking to the different talent and talking to Don Callis, figuring out what those segments [are]. It’s fun. It’s fun trying to figure out what those are, rather than just being handed a piece of paper and go and do that. That’s fine too. I enjoyed that for many years, but it’s fun being able to do it this way.”
