The Rock Partners With Disney For Live-Action Remake Of ‘Moana’

The Rock is helping bring Moana to life.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced that he is partnering with Disney Studios for a live-action remake of the 2016 animated musical film, in which Johnson sang “You’re Welcome.” Johnson and Disney CEO Bob Iger and Johnson announced the project during Disney’s annual shareholders meeting on April 3.

The former WWE Champion commented on the news in a tweet and highlighted the way the story means a lot to him, as his character, Maui, was inspired by his grandfather, Peter Maivia.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson is set to reprise his role as Maui, and he will produce the movie via his Seven Bucks Production Company. Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia will also be involved as producers. Jared Bush, the writer for the original, will write the story for the remark with Dana Ledoux Miller

Commenting on the news, Johnson noted that the story is his culture, and he views the chance to reprise his role as Maui as a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”
