Nia Jax Addresses Fans Labeling Her As ‘Unsafe’ In WWE

Nia Jax tackles fan criticism of her work.

During her time in WWE, Nia Jax was labeled unsafe by fans after a few mishaps, including the infamous “face breaker” spot in November 2018 that ended up helping propel Becky Lynch to superstardom. The former Raw Women’s Champion recently sat down with DS Shin of Ring The Belle and addressed her critics.

“Well, you know, first you embrace it because I’m such an ultimate heel,” Jax said. “At first I was like, ‘Okay, that’s fine. I get that.’ And then when people were making YouTube clips of this and that, I’m like, ‘First of all, I’m not the only person that messes up in matches.’ There’s like some of the best athletes and the most over stars that don’t have perfect matches.

“I remember having a conversation with Randy Orton because I had watched one of his matches with Brock [Lesnar] when they first started out, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you guys were so all over the place.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, we were shit. We didn’t know what we were doing.’ Back then there wasn’t a YouTube or a Twitter or an Instagram that reminded you how many things you messed up on,” she recalled.

“And so that kind of got to me where I was like, ‘Dang, I really try hard.’ I really wanna make people look good. I really wanna tell a good story, and sometimes mistakes happen, and I never want to be unsafe.” Jax added, “I always made it a point to make sure people felt comfortable getting in the ring with me, and so that kind of hurt my feelings, but I knew backstage people had my back. Other than that, it was like, ‘Dang, man, fans can be cruel.'”
