Jake Roberts Explains Why Promos Are More Important Now More Than Ever

Jake “The Snake” Roberts reminds everyone why promos are still important.

During a recent interview with Kidd Chris, Roberts explained why promos are more important now than ever.

“Yeah, [the promo] is more important today because kids don’t know how to get their characters across,” Roberts said. “I feel sorry for these guys, man, because there’s no way in hell I could’ve gotten my shit together in one moment. They’re being asked to. They’re being asked to get everything that they do together, and here’s the thing, they don’t get to go out and practice or wrestle in different areas to learn. They’re under one light and they’re fresh out of school. Here they are, ‘Okay, you’re on television, dude, hit it.’ That’s the reason wrestling’s like it is because they’re going out there, they’re physically able to do these moves, but they have no idea when to do them or how to sell them.”

Despite his belief regarding the need for promos, Roberts did note that he’s glad to see AEW talent learning their characters and growing rather than relying on heavily-scripted promos that WWE uses.

Jake Roberts also named a few AEW talent that he’s eyeing to be major stars.

“There’s several out there, several of the young guys. Darby Allin, for one. Yeah, he’s getting it, and of course, Sammy Guevara. And I love Orange Cassidy for whatever reason.” Roberts added, “MJF, yeah, he’s phenomenal. He’s probably going to be the biggest star before it’s over out of all of those kids.”
