Booker T: The Great American Bash Only Makes Me Think Of Dusty Rhodes

Booker T has a lot of great memories as it relates to the Great American Bash.

On the latest episode of The Hall of Fame podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Booker T spoke about the upcoming Great American Bash premium live event and how it reminds him of Dusty Rhodes.

“This pay-per-view definitely makes me think of just one person. That’s Dusty Rhodes,” Booker T said. “He was that guy that gave so many [people] so much inspiration. He was the first guy that really made me feel like, ‘You can do this,’ at another level. It was a house show, and I came out of the ring, and I was on first.

“It might have been a TV; I’m not sure. But I came through the curtain, and Dusty take, ‘They won’t put you on first no more.’ That’s what Dusty told me. Those were the encouraging words Dusty gave me to make me feel like, ‘Okay, alright. I’m doing something right.’ For Dusty Rhodes to say, ‘They will not put you on first no more,’ I was like, okay, yeah, let’s roll. I love that dude. He gave me so much inspiration.

Booker T’s Final World Title

Not only does Booker T have a lot of great memories of this event early on, but it was also the event when he captured his last world championship against Rey Mysterio.

“Yeah, that was my final World Heavyweight Championship reign versus Rey Mysterio as King Booker. One of my favorite matches,” Booker T admitted. “I actually do film study, and I use that match sometimes just to show how the big guy works against a smaller guy, how one can still make this thing look very, very poetic.

“A little perspective for me, being the big guy, I just had to keep up with Rey Mysterio. I didn’t have to be faster. I just had to keep up when it was my time. Timing is everything in this business. That match [at] Great American Bash was definitely one of my greatest triumphs.”
