Kerry Morton: Colby Corino Is Not Championship Material, I’m The Epitome Of Pro Wrestling

Kerry Morton has a lot of confidence heading into his title defense at NWA 75.

NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton recently sat down with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. When asked about Colby Corino‘s desire to win the title he currently holds, Morton said that’s too bad because he’s not going to lose it.

“My response is, ‘Too bad.’ Genuinely, too bad,” Kerry Morton said. “I mean, look at me, I am the epitome of professional wrestling. I am everything I say I am plus a little bit more. When it comes to the atmosphere of the National Wrestling Alliance, the independents, I am the king of the independents. Matt Cardona can say what he wants. Every single weekend all over the world. Three times a weekend, Friday, Saturday Sunday, I’m on the road.

“Look, Colby Corino, he’s fantastic. Let’s give him that. What he’s done is magnificent. His story, it continues to inspire me. I gotta say that. But he’s not championship worthy. He’s not championship material. I am the face of the National Wrestling Alliance.

“So for me, it’s just another match. Going into NWA 75, sure, I’ll have new gear. I’ll look cool, I’ll be representing the Southern Six. But all that aside, I’m gonna retain the championship. I mean, I hope. Probably going to be my 100th defense by the time I get to NWA 75. I’m not a job boy. I’m not an enhancement talent.

“I should probably just relinquish this belt soon and go for the Ten Pounds of Gold because I’m kinda getting tired of the competition. I’m looking forward to it though, all that aside. He’s gonna bring a new attitude to the table and he’s going to go remark on his reign of he should be NWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion. But he’s not championship material.”

Kerry Morton Comments On ICP's Violent J, Title Defense At NWA 75

NWA 75

When asked what night he’d like his match to be at NWA 75, Morton said he would prefer night one so he could answer Matt Cardona‘s open challenge on night two.

“I would like to say night one because obviously the champ should, I should main event every night. But unfortunately, that’s not the case it’s going. I’d like to say night one and then when I beat Colby Corino, night two, give me whoever. I saw Matt Cardona’s promo recently, running his mouth and mentioning my name at the end. Matt, be careful what you wish for. That’s all I have to say. Be careful what you wish for.

“I think they have someone scheduled for him already, but be careful what you wish for. The champion can go an hour broadway both nights. That’s who I am. I could go more than an hour broadway if need be, but you know what, the fans would probably have to pay more money to see that because I don’t wrestle for free. I’ll give him a good 10-15 minute match and then I’ll beat Colby Corino. But if they want to see more, then they’ll have to pay more because I’m generous, but I’m not generous enough.

“I prefer night one because night two I’ll drink with Southern Six after night one and get in the gym early Sunday morning, do my workout, and be ready to go for night two. Whoever that needs to be, I mean, I’m not sure if I’m scheduled to wrestle, but why wouldn’t they have Kerry Morton on the card? Kerry sells tickets, so who knows.”
