Report: Update On The Rock Meeting About Roman Reigns Match With WWE In 2022

The Rock made waves when he stated that he was slated to have a match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. A new report shines some light on the situation.

The Rock appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and stated that a match with Reigns was “locked” for WrestleMania 39. He said that he met with Nick Khan and Vince McMahon in 2022, and they agreed to it.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that WWE higher-ups said that the door was always open for The Rock. Sapp wrote that there were “considerations and meetings” regarding the match.

The report notes that other plans were considered in the summer and fall of 2022. Additionally, Sapp stated that some internal documents had Reigns’ opponent listed as “TBA” for some time.

Plus, the report notes that The Rock is in town alongside WWE SmackDown on September 15. The show is being taped in Denver, and “The Great One” was on Pat McAfee’s show, which was filmed in Boulder, Coloroado. One source from the show claimed that Rock and McAfee would be backstage at WWE SmackDown, though Fightful did not confirm the statement.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
