The current IMPACT Wrestling World Champion, Alex Shelley, has made a name for himself by competing in multiple wrestling promotions against some of the top wrestlers in the world.
Shelley recently retained his championship against former champion Josh Alexander at the Bound For Glory pay-per-view.
Following his victory, a fan took to Twitter to mention that the 40-year-old star had conquered every promotion he stepped foot in.
“Alex Shelley has rewritten his legacy and justified ~20 years of hype. He conquered the indies, wrestling everywhere under the sun. H e went back to TNA, revived MCMG, & put the company on his back when key injuries struck. He is EVERYTHING a World Champion is meant to be,” a fan tweeted.
Alex Shelley replied by stating that he always had his peers’ support in his success.
“Is this how people see me? I don’t succeed without the support of everyone around me at any given point,” Alex Shelley tweeted.
Tanahashi on Shelley
As soon as he captured the title, NJPW veteran Hiroshi Tanahashi also shared his interest in capturing the World Title. He said so during an interview with Sports Illustrated.
“I’ve become a veteran wrestler in New Japan, but I still want to keep getting better. As a New Japan wrestler, if I have the Impact title around my waist, it will open up a lot of doors for myself and show a lot of new avenues for NJPW wrestlers to follow.
“Alex Shelley and I are good friends,” said Tanahashi. “We’ve known each other for a long time. When I first went to TNA for an excursion in 2005, Alex was already a star. He has a good and strong heart. I can see he takes this business very seriously. It is an honor to wrestle him. This is a great opportunity. I am fighting to become Impact world champion,” Tanahashi said through a translator.
