For Cody Rhodes, finishing the story doesn’t just mean winning the world title, as he has his sights set on loftier goals.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes reflected on a remarkable 2023 in which he wrestled more matches than anyone in WWE. He made it clear that he is enjoying this run, as he highlighted the way the fans have connected with him.
“This job, it’s not like punching a clock,” Cody Rhodes said. “It’s a really fun movement with the fans. We’re really enjoying this moment that we’re having together. And I only get better with a heavy schedule. I’m able to be the best I’ve ever been because I’m doing it so frequently.
“That confidence has really been snowballing. I hit milestones I didn’t anticipate. Beating Brock Lesnar twice, for example. I keep thinking, ‘What’s better than this?’ It’s the way each of those moments has connected with the fans. They’ve given me their trust. That has made me even more confident.”
Cody Rhodes Wants To Be The Face Of WWE
Cody Rhodes went on to state that, as the road to WrestleMania begins, he wants to reach higher and become the face of the company. He expressed his hope that this elevation will begin at WWE Royal Rumble.
“The milestones keep building,” said Rhodes. “We keep climbing to new levels. Now the question I keep asking myself is, ‘Who is the face of the place?’ That’s what I want. That’s another level I need to attain. Hopefully that starts at the Royal Rumble.”
Rhodes also admitted that there’s some uncertainty with the road ahead, especially as rumors of a match between Roman Reigns and The Rock continue to heat up. For now, “The American Nightmare” is focused on the present while working towards making his dreams come true.
“No run lasts forever,” Rhodes said. “I know that. I’ve seen that. So I’m savoring every moment–and I’m working toward accomplishing what’s never been before.”
Cody Rhodes beat Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of the January 8 episode of WWE RAW. He is set to kick off the January 15 episode of WWE RAW. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
