Samoa Joe On HOOK: I Want These First-Time Matchups With Something At Stake

Samoa Joe is ready to kick off his title reign the right way tonight on AEW Dynamite against HOOK.

All Elite Wrestling World Champion Samoa Joe recently sat down with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. When asked about his first title defense this week on AEW Dynamite about HOOK, Joe said he’s looking forward to having first-time matchups while defending his championship.

“I’m very much looking forward to it,” Samoa Joe said. “This typifies what I want to see during my reign–I want these first-time matchups with something at stake. HOOK is quite the dynamic little athlete, and he’s been doing his best to make his case. His record speaks for itself, and we’re going to find out if he’s the truth or not.”

Joe had a history with HOOK’s father, Taz, in TNA Wrestling and spoke about his kinship with The Human Suplex Machine he felt they had the first time he saw him compete in the ring.

“I had very limited exposure to Taz on the West Coast, but when I did see him, it was almost like I felt a kinship,” Samoa Joe said. “That no-nonsense attitude, destroy-at-all-costs, that’s who he was. That’s who I am. Now it’s exemplified in an athlete like HOOK, so let’s get in the ring and go.”

When asked about his title match tonight being sponsored by the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game, where he voices one of the main playable characters, King Shark, Joe said he’ll bring the savageness of his character to the squared circle tonight.

“I’m going to bring along the savageness of King Shark,” Samoa Joe said. “It’s going to be best displayed in the evisceration of HOOK in front of millions of people around the world. Don’t worry about [product] integration. Just worry about HOOK’s safety.”
