Bianca Belair Never Thought She Would Do Reality TV, Wants To Show Viewers That Wrestling Is Cool

Bianca Belair opens about reality television.

Belair and Montez Ford are set to be the subjects of the reality series Love & WWE, which premieres on Hulu in February. The couple recently sat down with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour and was asked about what their thoughts were when they were approached to do the show.

“For me, oh, I was like, ‘No,'” Belair said. “I’ve always been a person that was like, ‘I will never do reality TV. Me? I don’t fit for reality TV. I don’t want to do that, never, never.’ And then I learned to never say never because they presented us with the opportunity and I will be honest and say we both jumped at it. We were like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’

“I think that we just saw it as an opportunity to show the WWE Universe not just who we are inside the ring, but outside the ring. But more importantly, show people that might not be a WWE fan or know much about WWE, use this as an introduction to WWE. Show them what it means to be a WWE superstar, show them how much is involved.”

“I think about Total Divas”

Belair noted she’s encountered people who say she doesn’t “look like a wrestler” and she wants to help change that perception and show them that wrestling is cool. The show was filmed during the road to WrestleMania 39, so viewers will also gain insight into what it takes to make it to the grandest stage of them all.

“I think it’s just really cool to show them what it’s like to be in WWE,” Belair said. “I think about Total Divas. For me, I didn’t really watch wrestling growing up. [Montez] did, he’s been watching since he was eight years old. He’s living his dream. But I remember my mom calling me like, ‘Have you seen Total Divas? Have you seen what these women wrestlers are doing?’ ‘What are they doing?’ And I’m seeing all these amazing things they are doing and it got me more interested in it. So I’m hoping that our show kind of does the same and I think that’s why we jumped at the opportunity for it.”

When asked if anything was off limits, Belair revealed that they did want to keep some things for themselves but admitted they do have family members who make appearances.

“Yeah, there was a couple of things,” Belair said. “I think that we still want to have a part of our life that’s private that we can still have to ourselves. We wanted to pull the curtain back a little bit, and it’s the first season. You never wanna say never, but first season we just wanted to spoon-feed, do an introduction. But we have conversations about certain things and we involved some of our family. Not all, just some because we’re used to being in the spotlight and getting comments. We’re used to that and we wanted to respect some people’s privacy.”
