Cody Rhodes has additional words for Gunther.
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will take on the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in a cross-brand match at WWE Crown Jewel. The winner will receive the first-ever WWE Crown Jewel Championship. Ahead of their battle, Rhodes and Gunther shared messages (and a handshake) on this week’s episode of WWE Raw. Rhodes also later delivered a follow-up message on Twitter.
“Get ready to swim in the deep end,” Rhodes wrote alongside a photograph of him and Gunther standing in the ring.
During their faceoff on Raw, Gunther called Rhodes a “secondary” champion, while also calling out the “mess” currently surrounding him on WWE SmackDown. In response, Rhodes noted that Gunther tends to break when he’s put in uncomfortable positions. Furthermore, Rhodes asserted that while Gunther may be a frightening competitor, he has already slain another frightening beast before.
Despite the verbal jabs, “The American Nightmare” and “The Ring General” expressed an underlying respect for one another, which led to them shaking hands at the end of the segment.
As Rhodes also pointed out in his promo, WWE Crown Jewel will mark the first time he and Gunther have wrestled one-on-one. The two previously shared the rings in the 2023 and 2024 Men’s Royal Rumbles, but never in a singles capacity.
WWE Crown Jewel 2024 emanates from the Mohammed Abdo Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, November 2.
