Mistico Is Open To Signing Dual Contract, Reflects On Bloody Rivalry With MJF

Mistico wants to continue finding new opportunities so he can prove why he’s one of the best Luchadores in the world.

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with Mistico ahead of his appearance at MLW Slaughterhouse on October 4. Mistico is coming off a popular feud with MJF, which culminated in a bloody Lucha de Apuestas Title vs. Mask match in CMLL. The pair also crossed paths in MLW and AEW on the way to Mistico’s CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship win. He said (via translator) that he not only proved how good he is, but why its so important to defend his mask.

“I proved that Mistico is one of the best luchadores in the world. And I proved to MJF that I have a lot of potential, that I show how good Mistico is,” he explained. “I proved how a wrestler needs to defend his mask. Even if I had to bluff, even with the attacks that I received, everything.”

“I didn’t care about blood, sweat or tears,” Mistico said. “What makes me proud, what [inspires] me, is the people the fans, my company. I proved that I’m not a little one. I think that this time [MJF was caught offguard with what I’m capable of], and [showed] that a luchador proves everything he can do for the company, for the fans, and for his mask.”

Mistico open to new opportunities in AEW and MLW

Mistico shared his excitement about the working relationship between CMLL and MLW. He’s not only happy that new fans can discover CMLL talent, but it also presents him with new challenges. Mistico also said that he’s open to signing a dual contract with a major promotion, like the one that Hechicero has with AEW and CMLL.

“I’m looking for an opportunity in any promotion in the world. If I receive an opportunity, I will take it. I proved that I love Lucha Libre. It doesn’t matter if it’s in Mexico, London, Japan. I think that I’ve shown what I’m made of, and now I think it’s time to look for new things,” he explained.

“And if I have an opportunity for a championship in an American company, I’m going to do it in AEW and MLW with all the pleasure of the world,” Mistico said. “Like other teammates who have a wonderful double contract, I would like to have that kind of contract. Or also to have new rivalries with other superstars. So I’m looking for new opportunities and new challenges in my career.”

Mistico proud to reemerge in PWI 500 top 10

This year’s PWI 500 list had Mistico ranked 9th, which also made him the highest-ranked Luchador on the list. Reflecting on the honor, he said that he’s been on the list before. However, re-emerging in the top 10 is a wonderful highlight for his career.

“To be on this list, it has been something wonderful. I think that makes me keep preparing and makes me keep training day by day, keep learning to be able to keep climbing places. And if one day I did it, I will do it again. For me, it has been something wonderful to achieve.”

MLW Slaughterhouse takes place on Saturday, October 4 at Thunder Studios Arena in Long Beach, California. The event will also be streamed live on the MLW YouTube page.
