Swerve Strickland Has ‘No Reason’ To Be Uncomfortable With Viral Weapons Spots

Swerve Strickland credits his fellow AEW stars for helping him feel comfortable using foreign objects in matches.

During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Strickland recalled the moment Sting’s bat saved him from the coffin lid shutting during the All In: London tag team match in 2023.

“Because we always get the tease of, like, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ So I was like, the speed of, especially if you’re watching from way up there. ‘Oh, it’s over. Yeah, it’s done. Wait, what?’”

When asked if he ever felt like he went too far with the use of weapons during matches, Strickland responded:

“Not to a point that’s overly dangerous, as far as I go… Like I said, I’m in the ring with the best in the world. There’s no reason to ever feel uncomfortable with these guys and girls.”

The former AEW World Champion also took a moment to address rumors that staples and similar weapons used in matches are gimmicked.

“Not one staple has ever been false,” he emphasized. “Not one thumbtack has ever been trimmed off. All of that stuff is legit.”

Swerve Strickland returned to AEW at Full Gear, appearing after Samoa Joe’s victory over “Hangman” Adam Page in the steel cage main event. Fans can catch up on everything that went down at the November 22 event here.
