Darby Allin recently admitted that he has come close to death on several occasions due to his extreme stunts and risk-taking lifestyle.
During an interview with ESPN’s Andreas Hale, Allin revealed that he traveled to the home of extreme sports star Travis Pastrana only days after winning the AEW World Title and performed a dangerous 120-foot jump while gripping bicycle handlebars attached to a Can-Am vehicle.
“A few days after becoming champion, I flew to [extreme sports athlete] Travis Pastrana’s house and then did a 120-foot jump while holding on to bicycle handlebars I screwed on top of a Can-Am,” Allin said.
The AEW World Champion admitted that losing his grip during the stunt could have ended disastrously, but said he felt compelled to continue living life on his own terms, comparing his mindset to Sammy Davis Jr.’s famous song “I’ve Gotta Be Me.”
“If I lost grip of those handlebars, it definitely would’ve been game over. But I had to get right back to it and live my life like Sammy Davis Jr.’s song ‘I’ve Gotta Be Me.'”
Darby Allin says there’s still much more for him to accomplish
Allin also reflected on the many dangerous situations he has survived throughout his career and life, saying he believes there is still much more for him to accomplish.
“There’s a reason I didn’t die a lot of times and it’s because I got so much left to offer,” Allin said.
He explained that he has made peace with whatever may happen to him and feels that if someone’s time comes, then it comes naturally. At the same time, Allin pointed out that he clearly believes it is not yet his time.
“No matter what happens, I’m at peace with whatever happens to me. If it’s your time to go, then it’s your time to go.
“But, clearly, it’s not my time.”
