Why WWE SmackDown Appears in the ‘Primetime’ Trailer for ‘To Catch a Predator’ Film

WWE SmackDown got a brief callout in the trailer for Primetime, the new film about To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen.

A24 dropped the first trailer for Primetime on Wednesday. Details about the film, starring Robert Pattinson as Hansen, are scarce. However, a brief synopsis reveals some details about the project.

“In 2006, To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen sets out to make television history.”

To Catch a Predator aired 20 episodes between 2004 and 2007 on NBC. The series saw Hansen and a camera crew attempt to catch child predators in sting operations and it became an immensely popular series.

WWE SmackDown also gets referenced in the trailer, when a brief shot shows a whiteboard full of the five major television networks’ weekly primetime schedules. Friday Night SmackDown is listed in green, referencing its time on The CW Network. SmackDown aired on the network from 2006 through 2008 as a result of the merger between The WB and UPN, SmackDown’s former home.

WWE SmackDown has aired more than 1,400 episodes since its inception in 1999. The show currently airs on USA Network.

Robert Pattinson headlines a cast that also includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and musical artist Phoebe Bridgers. The movie, directed by Lane Oppenheim, does not have a release date yet.
