WWE taped this week’s SmackDown immediately after RAW in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The show featured a new No. 1 contender, a championship match, and several major storyline developments ahead of next week’s RAW. Below are the full spoilers from PWInsider.
WWE SmackDown spoilers for July 3
- The show opened with new Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn. He criticized fans for booing him over the past few months. Former WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes interrupted to congratulate Zayn first. Jey Uso then joined them and congratulated Zayn as well. However, Jey warned Zayn that the championship belonged back with the family. Rhodes fired back by asking when Jey became Roman Reigns’ errand boy. Adam Pearce then appeared as acting SmackDown General Manager as Nick Aldis remains suspended. He announced Cody Rhodes vs. Jey Uso, with the winner challenging Sami Zayn on next week’s RAW in Chicago.
- Backstage, Charlotte Flair in an interview with Cathy Kelley she says Jade Cargill got what she deserved. Alexa Bliss interrupted before Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green joined them, setting up a six-woman tag team match.
- Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab defeated Charlotte Flair, Chelsea Green, and Tiffany Stratton. Jade pinned Green after hitting Jaded.
- Backstage, Sami Zayn argued with Adam Pearce backstage about defending the title on WWE RAW. He also thanked Johnny Gargano before taking a selfie with Gargano and Candice LeRae.
- AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix retained his by defeating El Hijo del Vikingo with the Mexican Muscle Buster.
- Giulia called out Blake Monroe backstage. Kiana James appeared before Blake attacked Giulia from behind once again. She also attacked Kiana moments later.
- Jimmy Uso, Jacob Fatu, and Royce Keys discussed Solo Sikoa’s whereabouts backstage before Royce claimed Jacob was his real family, leading to a staredown with Jimmy.
- Trick Williams appeared alongside Lil Yachty to a huge reaction. Carmelo Hayes interrupted and demanded a United States Championship opportunity. The segment ended with Williams slapping Melo before a non-title match was announced for next week.
- Danhausen appeared backstage with Matt Cardona. He revealed he would face JD McDonagh at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Madison Square Garden. Cardona then pressed a button, causing The Miz and Kit Wilson to start seizing while still attached to a machine.
- Lainey Reid defeated Brie Bella after pinning her in the middle of the ring. Paige and Fatal Influence brawled outside throughout the finish.
- Another backstage segment saw Finn Balor tell Cody Rhodes to win back the Undisputed Championship. After Cody walked away, Tama Tonga and Tala Tonga attacked Balor from behind.
- In the main event, Cody Rhodes defeated Jey Uso to become the new No. 1 contender. The win officially set up Cody Rhodes vs. Sami Zayn for next week’s edition of RAW in Chicago.
