WWE Star Admits He Was in the Crowd as a Fan To Watch CM Punk’s Return

CM Punk‘s surprise return on WWE RAW created one of the most talked-about moments of the week, and it wasn’t just for the fans. Rising WWE star Je’Von Evans has revealed that he left the backstage area so he could watch the moment from the crowd like a regular fan.

Punk returned on the July 6 episode of RAW after the night’s main event suddenly changed. Originally, Cody Rhodes was supposed to fight for the WWE Championship against Sami Zayn. But earlier in the show, Gunther attacked Rhodes, leaving him unable to compete.

With the title match in doubt, Nick Aldis announced that a replacement challenger had been found. That challenger turned out to be CM Punk.

Je’Von Evans says he had to experience CM Punk’s return as a fan

The crowd erupted when Punk’s music hit, and he went on to defeat Zayn to win the WWE Championship.

Speaking on ROAR Around The Ring, Evans said he had no idea Punk was backstage before the surprise happened. As soon as he realized Punk was returning, he left backstage and went into the arena because he wanted to enjoy the moment like everyone else.

“So I didn’t even know who was there. And then they did the gate… Oh, and I was like, ‘Yo, Papa Punk. He’s back.’ And then I went out there to watch the match. Like the energy was so high, bro. I couldn’t even… I couldn’t go and stay in the back to watch it. I had to go out there and actually be a fan… Like, sometimes, bro, we have to be fans, bro. Like that really helps us out,” Evans said.

He said the excitement reached another level once the hometown hero defeated Zayn. He admitted he couldn’t contain himself and celebrated along with everyone else in the arena.

“The energy was crazy, bro. And when he won, like it was, I don’t even know if I, like, I went crazy. I was like, ‘Yeah…’ I started running. It was insane. But no, it was great, man. I’m so happy for him. And I’m happy that he’s back,” Evans added.
