Scott D’Amore says TNA Wrestling’s rebranding was supposed to happen earlier than it did.
During the final moments of the 2023 Bound for Glory event, a vignette aired announcing that Impact Wrestling would be rebranded back into TNA Wrestling in the new year. However, during his recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, the company’s former president, Scott D’Amore, revealed that the rebranding was supposed to happen at the 2023 Slammiversary event.
“2023 was supposed to be the year for TNA. It was originally — we had everything set for TNA to return at Slammiversary 2023.” D’Amore was asked to clarify if he means the name and the brand of TNA, and he replied, “Yes. It was gonna return completely unannounced. You were going to watch the pre-show and you’re gonna be watching IMPACT Wrestling’s Slammiversary, and then the cold open was gonna be the reveal that it’s gonna be TNA, and while the cold open was playing, the crew would be changing over the skirts and everything else and we come out of that cold open, the entire arena would be built as TNA.”
Scott D’Amore explained why it didn’t happen
Scott D’Amore noted that they planned to make a surprise announcement, but it didn’t happen because they didn’t have the funds to execute it properly.
D’Amore was asked why that didn’t happen, and he said, “Because we couldn’t properly fund it to execute that, and then it was like, ‘Okay, let’s not screw this up.’ So that’s when we went back and kind of thought, ‘Okay, how else can we do it?’ And that’s when we came up with the idea of announcing it at the end of Bound For Glory.” [H/T Fightful]
After getting terminated from his role as TNA President in 2024, D’Amore is currently running the Maple Leaf Pro promotion in Canada.
