Mickey Rourke Speaks on Meeting Piper & Training For The Movie

Actor Mickey Rourke, star of the much anticipated new film “The Wrestler,” recently sat down with Newsday.com and had the following to say about meeting Roddy Piper. “He went on to pay us like highest compliments that we could wish for, And actually he got a little emotional about it. And it was kind of like, it was hard holding this guy and hearing him and talking back to him and understanding where heâ<80><99>s been â<80>” the journey that heâ<80><99>s been on and all the others that were like him. Because when your time has come and gone and thatâ<80><99>s the only thing you know, you canâ<80><99>t go and be a godd— bus boy somewhere. You just canâ<80><99>t do it. And the options arenâ<80><99>t a lot. And itâ<80><99>s not very pretty.”

Rourke went on to discuss the training he did for the movie by saying “We had choreographed the wrestling matches pretty basically [with moves] that any half-assed athlete could do. And then what started to happen after about like two and a half months was, one of the guys was very gymnastically inclined. He, like, got bored and started doing these f—ing moves. And I thought, â<80>~Wow. Man, I want to do that.â<80><99> So Iâ<80><99>d go in on Sundays with him alone and do it and not tell Darren (Aronofsky). And so what I said was, â<80>~I want to nail three or four f—ing moves that nobody could do.â<80><99>
