Monster's Ball Match

Jeff Hardy def. Abyss

Several "let's go Hardy!" chants to kick this one off. Abyss takes down Jeff with a few shoulder blocks, using his huge size advantage. Abyss gets a steel chair, but Hardy nails him in the gut and follows up with a mule kick. Poetry in Motion connects with the use of the chair and Hardy runs the apron, flying to the outside to take both guys to the floor. A table gets bridged between the ring and the barricade before the two trade right hands; Abyss gets the upper hand, sending Jeff hard into a ring post. Hardy tries to float over an Irish whip attempt into the corner, but Abyss catches him and throws Hardy's face through a steel chair! Out come the bag of thumbtacks as Abyss motions for the chokeslam, but Hardy comes back with a series of clotheslines, followed by a split-leg legdrop/dropkick combo. The Twist of Fate connects and Jeff takes off his shirt, heading up to the top rope, but Abyss throws a chair into his face, knocking him off the turnbuckle and through a table on the outside. Janice, the 2×4 covered in nails, comes in to play for the first time but "she" gets stuck in the top turnbuckle after a swing and a miss. Hardy tries to use Janice, but Abyss catches him with a clothesline through the pile of thumbtacks. 1…2…Hardy kicks out. Two boards full of barbed wire are tossed into the ring as Abyss screams for his opponent to get up; Jeff is actually picking the tacks out of his head. Another chokeslam attempt from the big man, but Hardy catches him with a Twist of Fate, followed by a dropkick through the barbed wire board. Hardy sandwhiches Abyss in between two boards and hits the Swanton Bomb, breaking them both in half. 1…2…3.

Mike's Thoughts: This might end up being the match of the night. Lots of good weapons spots. Shocker, Janice didn't actually do any damage. Hardy actually had thumbtacks in his skull, which was a brutal image. Despite having no real build – other than this whole show being a call back to past feuds – Hardy and Abyss worked well together. Crowd was about 70/30 in favor of Jeff Hardy.
