Update: Why Evan Bourne Did Not Appear at Ring of Honor’s Best in the World PPV as Scheduled

Evan BourneAs we reported several weeks ago, former WWE star Evan Bourne, now working as Matt Sydal, was backstage at Ring of Honor’s Best in the World PPV in Nashville, and was scheduled to appear on the show.

Plans were for Sydal to come out and do an interview, challenging the winner of the Best in the World Title match, and telling ROH fans he was coming for the title. The angle, however, had to be scrapped due to Sydal’s no-compete clause with WWE.

When Sydal was released from WWE, he contacted ROH, and told the company he had the go ahead from WWE to appear at the Best in the World PPV. However, when ROH contacted WWE to get Sydal’s appearance approved in writing, WWE told them he would be unable to appear for the company until September.

Paglino: It should be noted that when WWE talents are released from the company and under 90 day no compete clauses, the talents are still paid the downside guarantees written into their contracts.
