Time For WWE To Start Taking Dean Ambrose Seriously, All Chair Shot Reality Segments From Weekend

Dean Ambrose

Every Monday and Friday I have a column in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Today’s talks Dean Ambrose. Here’s an excerpt:

The time has come with Dean Ambrose.

It’s time for WWE to start taking him seriously. To take him seriously, you have to make him serious. Often in WWE, performers forget it’s pro wrestling and entertainment. They can be too tight and need to crack a smile, let their hair down or get a weight off their shoulders. Not Ambrose.

While many need to find their voice, Ambrose has a great one that he isn’t getting to use to its fullest.

When Seth Rollins became heel and turned his back on The Shield, it was surprising. I thought for sure that role would go to Ambrose. Rollins has ran with it and had a great year as a singles performer. Ambrose made the closest thing to lemonade as he could without being given lemons.

It’s clear Ambrose won’t be given any spot higher than he’s had in his current run. He’s a mix of the bad boy in a PG-rated movie, the weird uncle and righteous sidekick. He does good business for non-televised live events as a babyface. He can work with any opponent of any size or style in the ring. He’s been serviceable with guaranteed reaction. There’s value to that reliability. There’s greater value in Ambrose being a devious and calculated menace.

The Shield was a great opportunity and run. However, it didn’t properly convey that modern-day Brian Pillman that Ambrose can display.
