Hiroshi Tanahashi, the biggest star of New Japan Pro Wrestling, has been officially pulled from his upcoming title match with IWGP Intercontinental Champion Kenny Omega at Dominion.

As noted, Tanahashi is suffering from a pretty severe shoulder injury, as has needed to take time off for quite some time, but the company was hopeful he would be able to rest up and return to action in time for Dominion.

The championship match was set to be the first ever ladder match in the history of New Japan. They had run an injury angle during the opening nights of the Best of Super Juniors tournament that saw Omega smash Tanahashi’s arm inside a ladder multiple times, which also involved several other members of the Bullet Club. The following day it was announced that he had been taken off the remainder of the tour.

Kenny Omega will instead defend the Intercontinental title against Michael Elgin in a rematch from April.
