Matt Taven On Facing Will Ospreay At ROH Final Battle, Coming Back From Injury, Mike Bennett’s Recovery From Addiction

Matt Taven recently spoke with Scott Fishman for Channel Guide Magazine; you can read a few highlights below:

Matt Taven talks about fighting to come back from his recent knee injury:

“I was pretty determined to get back as soon as possible. Ring of Honor, I was under contract, and they took care of me the whole time. I was in no rush, but I was in a personal rush to get back because I am so antsy to get there. I love doing this. I want to succeed more than anything and want to make sure people know how good Matt Taven is. So, I feel like when I came back I had a lot to prove. I wanted to show I could come back from a big injury and that I was going to grow, and I was ready to take Ring of Honor over.”

Taven comments on former Kingdom stablemate Mike Bennett’s recovery from addiction:

“The toughest thing to do is acknowledge your own faults and actually look in the mirror and say, ‘This is what is going on.’ It’s hard for me because at some point you second guess yourself. You think, ‘Did I see something here or a sign there?’, or, ‘I should have done more.’ But when it comes down to it, all you can do is be there for him. I talk to Mike almost on a daily basis. We’ve been through so much. It’s one of those things that we have always known were there for one another. I’m just happy that he has come to this realization and is making steps to make his life better. That’s all I want for my friends is for them to be happy. He has a baby on the way. I literally just talked to him yesterday. He is in Italy right now. He is having a great time. The best part about it is he is clean, he is healthy and couldn’t be happier. So, I’m happy for him.”

Taven comments on facing Will Ospreay at Final Battle this weekend:

“In the immediate future, we have Final Battle coming up. It’s going to make waves. I think it’s a big spot for the two of us to showcase ourselves. He is a young up-and-coming guy. I’ve been here for a little bit, but there is a drive in me that I don’t’ think people appreciate me as much as they should. That will be something that always drives me and always push me to do better. Ospreay is a hell of an athlete. Though there is no doubt in my mind that I am a million times better than Wil Ospreay, and I can’t wait to show the world that.”
