Looking At What Could Happen If Undertaker Wins Or Loses At WM 34

Now here is what could be interesting if done right. A win to end the Undertaker’s career would be unpredictable and would restore some credibility to the Undertaker’s legacy. After a streak like that, three losses at the end of a career on the grandest stage of them all only tells me that three men were able to capitalize on an athlete in his old age.

Regardless of age or his body, if Undertaker was able to win his last match against John Cena, it would be a grand story of redemption for Taker and a fascinating story of continued disappointment for Cena. The Undertaker lost his streak to Brock Lesnar in the same place that he may have his last match. If Taker goes over Cena there he would finish his career strong and juxtapose his episodes of weakness against Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar in the past few years. A win though does not just have to be for Undertaker’s sake.

John Cena still has some time left in the WWE if all goes well and I believe that losing to The Undertaker would do even more for his character development than picking up a win. Cena’s storyline as of late (with the exception of beating AJ Styles to get onto the Fastlane card) is constant loss and disappointment, fueled by his desire to prove that he can still hang in the ring. A loss to The Undertaker would further exacerbate Cena’s outlook on his abilities and could even lead to him *storyline* walking away from wrestling on the Raw after WrestleMania. 

A few ways they could then capitalize on this would be: 

1. A hiatus until an up and coming heel talent calls him out for SummerSlam while referring to Cena as hypocrite and a coward for not answering, just as The Undertaker did when Cena issued a challenge.
2. Send Cena down to NXT to “train” and regain what once made him the best, aka put over some young talent while perpetuating Cena’s fall from grace angle.
3. An eventual snap and heel turn (not holding my breath on that one).

End of “The Road”

There are possibilities coming out of both circumstances, and although a loss is probably what is expected, a win would stir the pot a bit more. Regardless, an important outcome of the match should be Cena’s continued story progression. If The Undertaker does have his retirement match at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans he will not only leave as a legend but he will also help the beginnings of a long story arc that can encompass much of 2018.
