WWE announcer, Tom Phillips, was a recent guest on Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast. Phillips credited Renee Young for the assistance she gave him when he first came to the WWE,

“Working with Renee Young – I will say this until my dying day, she taught me how to walk as a broadcaster because I’m in the studio and I’m like, ‘Where do I look? What am I supposed to do?’ She is in there pointing me in the right direction with all of that and I am forever grateful for her.”

Host Sam Roberts continued the dialogue about WWE’s announcers and asked if JBL gets an unfair amount of criticism on the internet for the amount of flak he gives people. Phillips responded with,

“Yes, 1000%. I don’t think you learn anything from someone that says, ‘Great job. See you next week.’ If you ask a stupid question, expect a stupid answer. If I go, ‘What’s he gotta do to win this?’ He’s probably got to pin the guy. Ask an intelligent question, you’ll get an intelligent answer from an intelligent human being. JBL is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever gotten to interact with. Everything he is doing on Fox News right now, a self made millionaire and then on top of that one of the most accomplished in-ring guys in a long time to be on commentary…JBL was incredibly good to me. I loved working with him. So, yes I think he gets a bad reputation.”
