2/8 Wrestlezone Recap: Anonymous Letters From WWE, Emma Bombs in Raw Debut, Undertaker’s Return, WrestleMania Plans & More

WrestleMania Plans Up in the Air

wrestlemania 30As of January, all plans for WrestleMania were said to be locked down tight. Batista was supposed to face Randy Orton, with CM Punk against Triple H, Daniel Bryan working Sheamus, and Undertaker facing Brock Lesnar. Those were the four big matches. Punk leaving threw a wrench in the machine, as WWE thinks they need Triple H in action to sell the PPV.

The latest news is that WWE might be putting Bryan in the world title picture, making it a triple threat. If this happens, there's talk about turning Roman Reigns babyface against The Shield and The Authority, and booking him against Triple H at WrestleMania. This is a huge match for the up-and-coming powerhouse, and one that I would be all in favor of. Whether he would get the biggest win of his career is a completely separate issue, but just being put in that position is a huge step in the right direction.

Another potential match, if that doesn't play out, is having all three members of The Shield go at it in a triple threat match. Apparently WWE doesn't want to do two big 3-way matches at WrestleMania, so it's going to hinge on what ultimately ends up happening with Daniel Bryan. The bottom line is that WWE doesn't have a "Cena vs. Rock" marquee match on the table this year. But if they have enough B+ level matches, they can make up for it. What's really interesting is how they balance PPV buys with Network subscriptions. If they want to get a million subscribers, they can't also expect a million PPV buys at the same time.
