Why The WWE and Vince McMahon Can Only Lose To Themselves

Steve Austin, The Rock

As many of us do, we turn on the WWE Network and see the great moments from years past. Whether you tune into WrestleMania X-7 or even Backlash 2000, where Stone Cold Steve Austin returned and the crowd erupted. The moments can go on and on. Michaels vs. Austin, Bret getting screwed over, Shane McMahon and Kurt Angle’s epic match at King of the Ring 2001 are just few of the great moments that WWE gave us during The Attitude Era. Sitting with my brother and his friend who are in their early 30’s talking about epic memories made me think about WHY WWE is not as good as it was 15-20 years ago.

Then, I think to myself about some incredible matches and moments we have seen over the years. Hell, Brock vs. Cena vs. Seth Rollins was the best Triple Threat Match I have ever seen. Many will throw back WrestleMania XX and I can understand, but this match was stellar as well and deserves to be in the conversation. Even Michaels/Cena on Raw a few years back, NXT matches with Finn, Owens, Balor and others have been excellent. So, my question is this: why is WWE not as successful anymore? Why is it not as popular as the Attitude Era?

The answer is NOT for WWE to stop the PG and go back to risky material. It is not happening because they are still profiting. They are still making money, albeit not as MUCH as before. I break the reasoning down to three categories for WWE as to why they are not as interesting and successful from over a decade ago and who is to blame.
