According to a report by Variety, Fast & Furious 6 starring WWE Superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has broken a new record, becoming the fastest film to break $500 million in Universal Pictures history.
"Fast 6" has held the box office lead for three consecutive weekends, following its major Memorial Day weekend release. It is on track to surpass Fast 5 as the highest grossing film in the 10-year series. That film has grossed over $626 million since its debut in 2011.
The studio has officially scheduled another entry, tentatively titled "Fast & Furious 7" and is expected to begin production this July. IMDB lists the film for a 2014 release, with The Rock set to return alongside series regulars, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and Paul Walker.
